Vital point from enthralling derby
Jamie McDonaldBohemians - Sparta 2:2
Bohemians were looking to get back to winning ways but faced tough opposition in the form of their high flying neighbours Sparta Prague. Sparta had previously given the Kangaroos a 3-0 thrashing in the return fixture and the Kangaroos were desperate to turn the tables. The game got off to a fantastic start for the Kangaroos when the green and white Latino duo combined with Mosquera superbly feeding Acosta to brilliantly open the scoring and put the Kangaroos into a shock 1-0 lead in front of a packed Ďolíček.
From then on until the end of the first half Bohemians were under the cosh. The build-up of Sparta pressure eventually told when after some poor defending by the men in green and white Lafata was eventually able to poke home a scrappy goal to bring the scores level.
After the break the Kangaroos looked rejuvenated and played some outstanding football. Indeed, they made this pressure pay dividends when Šmíd tapped home from close range following a Svec cross to send the Ďolíček into raptures. The kangaroos were now and truly on the front foot and the outstanding Čížek had several excellent opportunities to secure the win for the Kangaroos but alas he somehow managed to miss or hit the post when it sometimes appeared easier to score.
Bohemians were made to pay for the series of chances that were squandered when Dockal fired into the top corner to secure a draw for Sparta. Overall, it was an enthralling game with many ebbs and flows and on reflection a draw was perhaps a fair result with both sides wasting chances and Bohemians stalwart Zlámal producing some fine saves as ever to keep his team in the game. However, despite the euphoria and vital point secured by this result, Bohemians will be looking to improve on this performance and to be more clinical in front of goal.
This point brings Bohemians one point closer to safety and with a good run of results in the closing games of the season they can look to perhaps achieve a mid–table finish which would be a fantastic result given the poor start to the season. The whole team at the Ďolíček players, coaches and administration staff has worked hard to turn the Kangaroos’ fortunes around and after the aforementioned 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Sparta in October, this 2-2 draw felt like a win.
